"Platons Drikkegilde"

"Platos Symposium"

COSTUME DESIGN - SOURCING - MAKING

"Platons Drikkegilde", or "Platos Symposium" is a play by Vibeke Flesland Havre, which had its premiere during the Bergen International Festval 2022

The Symposium is one of Plato's most famous works, in which he depicts a legendary party that he himself did not go to. At the party, the poet Agathon invited each of his guests to make a speech about love.
Since then, Socrates' speech has received much attention, as he told of the wise  Diotima, the woman who taught him to understand the power of love.

In this Symposium, Plato is the bartender, Diotima the nightclub singer, and Socrates the regular customer at the bar. Annlaug Børsheim is our Diotima and has selected love songs to present in her own way, with her voice, fiddle and guitar. Like Agathon, we have invited different guests to hold a speech about love. The guests are local people who all wield the power words.
Actor and performing artist Vibeke Flesland Havre is our Plato, who introduces each guest, leads the conversation, and, together with Harald Ottesen Nødtvedt as Socrates and Annlaug Børsheim as Diotima, tells us about the famous drinking party in Athens.
